Concentration Statement

My concentration idea is to have several pieces of maps. Starting with my house and moving farther and farther away to family and friends streets. The pieces will be in mosaic tile arraingement on a wood backer with grout. There will be 10 pieces moving forward as my. I was originally inspired by Nancy Crow and her pattern quilts. That morphed into paterns that connected together in a maze-like way, however it had no personal touch, it was just sketches I had made. The idea of arial views of family and friends locations still stays generally with my original idea and has a more personal touch that makes it my own.

Artist Inspiration One (Nancy Crow)

My origial inspiration was Nancy Crow and the way that she makes each individual piece connect into eachother to create a deisgn that is estetically pleasing. The way the lines swoop across one way and double-back to the other. She really began my thought process for developing my Concentration Statement.

Artist Inspiration Two (Mondrian)

Another artist I had been emulating for years unknowingly was Mondrian. For years I would draw things that are similar to his works without knowing his name or any history on him. It subconsciously shaped the way I look at objects into more abstract, hard lines point of view with bright vibrant colors that work together well. I accredit my style of glass cutting and view on colors and line to Mondrian,

Artist Inspiration Three (Ilya Bolotowsky)

More recently I have discovered a new artist who was inspired by Mondrian as well. Ilya Bolotowsky does many of the same things as Mondrian with his own flair. Instead of using square canvas he uses circular and rectangular canvas as well. And just like myself his abstract view is of cities. His of New York and mine of maps of my family's geographical location.
